Ukrainian Sunflower Seed Prices Surge on Factory Demand

  • Bullish: Ukrainian sunflower seed prices climbed to UAH 31,000–32,500/tonne CPT on robust processor demand and farmer withholding.
  • Bullish: Farmers have secured inputs for spring fieldwork, allowing them to delay sales and support higher price levels.
  • Bullish: Strong crushing plant buying and limited spot supply are tightening the market and reinforcing upward price momentum.

Market Update

Ukrainian sunflower seed prices extended their rally last week, as processors increased purchase bids by UAH 300–500 per tonne. Reported prices now stand in the range of UAH 31,000–32,500 per tonne on a CPT basis, according to APK-Inform.

The upward move is driven by active stock replenishment by crushing plants, which are competing for limited spot volumes. At the same time, farmers are restricting sales of available sunflower seed inventories, encouraged by firm pricing across the wider oilseed complex and rising costs for fuel, fertilizers, and other key inputs.

Many producers holding oilseed stocks have already purchased the inputs needed for spring planting. This reduces immediate cash-flow pressure and allows them to wait for potentially higher prices before releasing additional volumes to the market.

Market Analysis

Bullish. The current market balance for Ukrainian sunflower seeds is skewed toward strength, as aggressive buying by crushing plants intersects with strategic farmer withholding. With processors needing to secure raw material and producers already covered for spring input needs, farmers hold meaningful leverage and can resist lower bids. This tight near-term supply environment in a key Black Sea origin is likely to keep prices supported and may add upward pressure to broader regional oilseed values.
